the art formerly known as prints | style

With all the focus on minimalistic simplicity for the most part of the early noughties,
most fashion houses have steered clear away from prints. Anything too busy was
regarded as gaudy & vulgar.

In 2013, fashion has gone in an “Anything goes” direction and
fashionistas have embraced beautiful prints with houses like Marni, Diane Von
Furstenburg, Missoni & Louis Vuitton now putting out entire suits in striking colorful
prints on the runway.

Being a Cape Town girl, colour, texture and interest are key components in my wardrobe
and one has only to stroll down Long Street on a weekend to see that I am not the
only one with this sentiment. Bold stripes teamed with animal print, abstract prints
with a dash of pretty florals, Ndebele brights mixed with Aztec patterns. The result
is a burst of print and colour which is interesting yet sophisticated. Be warned though, this look can easily be overwhelming and out of hand, so make sure you
keep hair and make-up simple when embracing your inner PRINT-SESS!
